Liverpool FC America recently held our first ever National Series College Prep Clinic here in the North Dallas area. Coaches from far and wide came to see and evaluate the potential of our Liverpool athletes as well as athletes from other clubs across the region. More than 125 athletes were in attendance for this year’s inaugural event as 21 college head coaches and assistant coaches put them through their paces.
After the registration, players were given a College Prep T-shirt and then taken to the fields to warm-up. The energy level was high as both college coaches and some of our professional coaches took the lead in warm-ups. Then the college coaches such as Randy Waldrum of Notre Dame, and Fleur Benatar stepped onto the field for a training session with each group. Guided by different coaches each day, the players were given an opportunity to train and see what a collegiate session would be like. Then, the teams went into their challenge mode where scrimmages with other “groups” from the clinic took on a whole new meaning in front of these college “scouts.”
The evening was highlighted with training, games, skill work and by an informal question and answer time for athletes and parents. The college coaches spoke to the passion and dedication required at the collegiate level and reminded athletes that if they want to play in college, that there is a place for them at a great university somewhere, all they have to do is make the effort.
The athletes were exhausted but exhilarated to have been a part of the amazing College Prep Clinic experience. Both athletes and parents remarked about the success with promises to return next year where it will be even bigger and better than ever for 2012!
